“I was born to dance!” I became a mother young, but I was born to dance. I journeyed into the underworld and my small part who had become a shadow from not being able to be who they are. I was born to dance. I am talented, ambitious, loving, and so fun. Others told this small part of mine to stop being embarrassing (stop dancing) “people are looking,” they would say, but my small part didn’t care, she was born to dance and be seen, to take up space and be proud of who she is. She was told that she wouldn’t make it as a dancer, that she’s a shame for falling down trying so hard, that she’s a slut and a whore, and that if she doesn’t stop dancing, she will be outcasted and lose her family too. It makes SO MUCH SENSE, why I will, and have, drawn hard lines to protect myself as a dancer in the most recent years. This part of me that became a shadow, was born to dance. Yes, I love being a mother with all my heart, and my children are the finest of all to dance with, but I LOVE WAS BORN TO DANCE. We get to be a dancer now; love knows that the children are safe and that she can be free to fly. We get to be proud of ourselves and step into our place of power as a dancer, a powerful dancing mother! I will be my children inspiration; how would they know to step into who they are if I don’t do it first?
